Prompt

A children's picture book illustration. A small girl in a yellow raincoat walks a muddy path with a fox following behind, drawn with a loose brown ink line and painted in transparent watercolour washes. Colour bleeds gently past the line in places, cold pressed paper texture visible throughout, large areas of bare paper left around the figures, soft muted palette of sage, ochre and dusty blue. Warm and gentle rather than precise.

Tips

1Bare paper is essential. Ask for it or the frame fills edge to edge.
2Say the colour bleeds past the line. That small imperfection reads as handmade.
3Cold pressed paper gives the right tooth. Hot pressed looks too slick.
