Recipe

The examples above were generated with Nano Banana Pro and Seedream 4.5. The recipes below are written for GPT Image and Flux, so treat the settings as a starting point rather than the exact run.

A description in plain sentences. This is the version to start with, and it works on any current image model. Settings below are the ones we used on GPT Image; treat them as a starting point.

The recipe is the style, not the picture. Put your own subject in and the highlighted part of the prompt changes.

Prompt

A smooth abstract gradient mesh rendered with ordered dithering, as though the display could only show a handful of colours: broad organic areas of hue flowing into one another, every transition between them handled by a regular grid of dither dots that thickens as one colour gives way to the next. Flat areas almost solid, the dot pattern sharp, uniform and clearly visible rather than random noise. Limited palette of three or four hues, no subject, no objects, no text, full bleed to every edge.

The prompt gets you close. Feed one of the examples in as a style reference for the rest. Download the images

Tips

  • 1Say ordered dithering, not grain or noise. Random texture gives you a grubby gradient instead of this.
  • 2The dots belong in the transitions. Flat areas should stay clean, which is what makes the pattern read as indexed colour.
  • 3Three or four hues. A full spectrum turns the dithering to mud.

Things to try

Two colours

a single transition, maximum dither

Hot palette

red into orange into pink

Cool palette

green into teal into blue

Coarser

a much larger dot grid

Pastel

pale tints with fine dithering
